The well-traveled Alfred Hitchcock once hailed a Croatian sunset off the coast of Zadar as the ‘most beautiful in the world’. Zadar is also home to the famous Sea Organ, a 230-foot instrument that is ‘played’ by the winds and waves of the Adriatic. Walk through the walled city of Dubrovnik to relive your greatest King’s Landing scenes from Game of Thrones. There’s 5800km of unbelievably beautiful coastline to enjoy, whether it’s sunning on the beaches or chartering your own yacht and exploring private coves, giving the Riviera a run for its money. Take a trip through Roman history via its magnificent ruins, sample its delicious truffle or try its new wines, an industry that is coming into its own. Dance at its numerous music festivals that light up the country every year. There’s something for everyone; you will find your holiday guilty-pleasure in Croatia for sure.
Peak Season Description:
Beaches are packed, and almost every yacht may be booked out, so plan early for that perfect Croatian Adriatic experience, as glamorous as the French Riviera, but better priced. Expect beautiful, dry days, if a bit hot. And the only way to beat the tourist crush at all the attractions is to let your operator do all the advance planning.
Shoulder Season Description:
These are the months we strongly recommend if you can make it at this time: less crowds and milder temperatures. Prices will be marginally lower, yacht hiring easier and accommodation better priced. Same experience as peak season, without the heat and the tourist crush.
Low Season Description:
Croatian winters can get bitterly cold, so best avoided unless you’re going skiing up on the Olympic slopes of Bjelolasica, or the Sljeme Mountains, just north of Zagreb. Christmas is celebrated with great aplomb in Zagreb despite the snow, if you fancy an alternative destination you haven’t tried before. Several hotels will be shut, however (except for ski resorts), so check with your operator.
