We spend two full days exploring this magnificent region with morning, afternoon and evening tours on foot, by truck and by canoe. The amount of wildlife you see is phenomenal. Birds of prey can be seen at close quarters and caiman lines in each pond. You may also see families of river otters munching on their fresh fish breakfast or a rare puma stalking a capybara on the riverbank.
Accommodation: Caiman Ecological Refuge Meals: Breakfast, Lunch And Dinner Go out with the team as we search for the Jaguar. They spend a lot of time searching for the animals themselves, as well as for clues that will point us in the right direction for when the nocturnal jaguars get active as the sun sets down in the horizon. The team will check previously set camera traps for any sign of the animal, look for tracks on the ground and try to locate kills made during the previous night. Data from satellites will also be checked that follow our collared jaguars and search them via a receiver that can capture VHF signals emitted through their collars. Once a sign of the animal is found we will attempt to locate the animal. You and your group can be part of experiencing this amazing habituation process. You also have a chance to enjoy tracking on foot with our expertly trained African trackers, see pictures taken by our camera traps and experience all the technological features available to us in this project. Depending on circumstances we will set out at Sunset or just after dinner in order to see the jaguars. You will also be given a full presentation on the projects work and objectives at our base station. Accommodation: Caiman Ecological Refugee Meals: Breakfast, Lunch And Dinner Take a 4 hour trip back to Campo Grande for your flight to your next destination.

The scenery of Pantanal changes with every new season. Each one of the seasons has its own characteristics which vary from year-to-year according to the presence or absence of rains.
December to March: December is the beginning of the water flooding the plains and basins, which reaches its peak by mid March when the rain season ends. With the summer rains, parts of Pantanal are flooded bringing back the fauna and flora to life. The main characteristics of this season are the beautiful water landscapes and water birds such as the jabiru stork, woodstorks, limpkins, ducks, teals and egrets. Among the common mammals we can find capybaras, crab eating foxes, the grey brocket and pampas deer. The water plants blossom through the lakes and rivers. Also abundant are butterflies and other interesting insects. The following months are also when Pantanal becomes the planets largest flood plain and is called the swamp.
April to June: In April, the rain ceases and the water level drops forming lagoons and ponds. The temperature gets milder and the night sky is full of stars. Mammals such as the white-lipped peccaries, collared peccaries, marsh deer, howler and capuchin monkeys can now be seen more often.
July to Mid November: Dry and peak season. The lack of rain shrinks the lagoons which result in the re-emergence of the land. The fields dry up and expose vast areas for grazing, where mammals seek feed.. At this time, various species of storks and egrets nest, taking advantage of the abundance of food. In the month of August the trees bloom and the drought intensifies lasting until November, making it the best time to observe wildlife including jaguars.
