  • Itinerary Summary

    Day 01 : Arrival in Lisbon

    Arrive at Lisbon airport and drive to the São Mamede Natural Park (3 hours). Get refreshed and relax after your journey in the 13th Century Charm Santa Maria Hotel. In the evening there will be a general briefing on the tour followed by a fantastic dinner in this traditional medieval Portuguese village.

     

    Accommodation: Pousada do Marvão – Santa Maria Hotel

    Day 02 : São Mamede Natural Park

    Following breakfast, we’ll take a pleasant 15 minutes walk up to the clouds to visit the highest castle in Portugal, Marvão. Heading for the São Mamede Natural Park, we will start with a very smooth downhill to the medieval city of Castelo de Vide, through a narrow, curved mountain road with trees and greens on both sides, to arrive at our paradise picnic scene. You will be astonished when entering the Knights of the Order of Malta Monastery transformed into a luxury hotel, the Flor da Rosa Monastery, a 14th Century Palace-Monastery of Gothic structures with some 16th Century Manueline details. Enjoy dinner in this historical atmosphere.

    Day 03 : Lago Montargil & Villas

    After breakfast, you will leave the superb hotel-monastery of the Order of Malta. Today we are going to be heading slightly further southeast passing by Alter do Chão. Along a leisurely afternoon ride you will come across the Maranhão Dam, a quiet man-made lake in an area of beautiful lowlands and splendorous rugged cliffs. Put your feet up and relax when you arrive at our atmosphere hotel by the lake. The Lago Montargil & Villas is the perfect place to enjoy nature.

    Day 04 : Pousada de Arraiolos

    Today our goal is to arrive at the Portuguese city of tapestries, Arraiolos. Tapestries have been handmade in Arraiolos since the 17th Century, but a legend takes the art of weaving carpets and others pieces to the 12th Century. For lunch, you will experience one of the most exclusive picnics ever. On the way to this evening’s accommodation, we will visit the dolmen-chapel in Pavia, a national monument from the 4th Century B.C., built of a single giant rock. It’s time to relax in our 16th Century luxury convent, Nossa Sra. da Assunção Historical Hotel, where you will be able to feel history while resting in a perfect symbiosis of traditional and modern concepts of Portuguese architecture.

    Day 05 : Convento do Espinheiro Luxury Collection Hotel & Spa

    We’ll leave Arraiolos and head to the World Heritage UNESCO city of Évora. This day’s tour will be very different from the previous days as you are going to cycle along an ancient railroad that is out of use and has been turned into a green trail. The terrain is 100% non-asphalt, but quite easy to pedal through. You’ll then cycle by the ancient railroad stations and marvel at the purple flowers that will escort us all the way to Évora. At the World Heritage city, you will have a guided visit to one of the most famous wineries and have an Alentejo regional lunch, with all the goodness of this rich gastronomy and the finest wines of the Cartuxa Winery. Tonight you will be lodged at the perfect accommodation for such a wonderful city, an exclusive Historic Design Hotel & Spa that dates back to the 16th Century. Enjoy the most of this experience with a Chef's signature gourmet dinner and loosen up.

    Day 06 : Evora

    Following breakfast, the morning will be spent cycling and visiting the wonderful walled city’s Roman monuments, Diana's Temple, Bones Chapel, São Francisco's Church and the Aqueduct. Get lost in those ancient narrow streets. Pedaling back to tonight's accommodation, it's time to relax and enjoy the most of this historic atmosphere.

    Day 07 : L’And Vineyards Luxury Wine Resort

    You will leave the hotel and cycle trough a challenging off-road track, with some of the most incredible scenic landscapes of the Tour. Our day's goal is the fabulous Land Vineyards Resort where you'll be staying at an incredible Sky Suite that allows you to sleep under the stars. The Wine Resort is a piece of modern art with interiors designed by the world famous Architect Márcio Kogan. Indulge yourself with the perfect last dinner of the tour, wine tasting and wine pairing dinner especially prepared by the Michelin star Chef Michael Lafan.

Climate

Portugal experiences a temperate maritime climate that is affected by the Atlantic, Continental and Mediterranean influences. The summers are hot and the winters are wet. There are variations in the climate according to altitude and proximity to the ocean.

 

Northern Portugal has forests of beech and pine. South-central Portugal has cork oak and olive grassland. Towards the coastline vegetation becomes sparser, and wide expanses of grassland are found.

 

Several wild animals such as the wolf, lynx, wildcat, fox, wild boar, wild goat, deer, and hare can be found. Several species of birds can be found as Portugal occupies an important bird migration route. These include the cormorant, egret, black-winged stilt, greater flamingo, stork, European bee-eater, and griffon vulture. Portugal’s coast is rich with over 200 species of fish, especially small fish like pilchards, anchovies and tuna.
