Climate

Just south of the equator, Tanzania is vast and its sheer range means that the climate varies considerably within it. Its climate is generally dived into three parts- the long rains, dry season and short rains.

The main rainy season, the 'long rains', run through March, April and May. During this time, it is not uncommon for it to rain quite heavily in the afternoons. These rains are heavier and more predictable in coastal areas. The humidity is high and daily temperatures reach the low-mid 30°s.

The long dry season lasts from June to October, when rainfall is infrequent, even on the islands. Temperatures vary with altitude and location, but this period is usually characterized by clear skies and sunny weather.

During November and December the second monsoon pays a visit. The 'short rains' are much lighter than the main rains and less reliable.

If it has rained during the short rains, it normally dries up for a few months for Tanzania's 'short dry season', before starting the long rains start up again in March.

Visas, Travel Documents and Special Permits

Please note that you are responsible for checking your destination country's visa requirements and then getting the visa accordingly.

Further, most countries require travelers to have a passport that is valid from at least 6 months from the day of entry into the country, so please confirm that you satisfy your destination country or countries passport, visa and medical (if any) requirements well in advance of your trip.

Immunizations / Medical Requirements

  • It is compulsory for everyone entering the country to be vaccinated against Yellow Fever.
  • It is recommended that they be vaccinated against Tetanus, Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Poliomyelitis, although these are not mandatory.
  • Contracting malaria is a very real risk in Africa. Travelers are advised to be aware of this and take precautionary measures.
